They wanted her to write a book based on 105 interviews with Vancouver coal miners and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Even though coal mines had been shut down for years, Vancouver once boasted some of the world&#8217;s most significant ones. Plus, one had even seen a devastating explosion back in 1887.<\/p>\n<p>The miners were eager to preserve their stories, so Lynne dedicated her first book, &#8220;Boss Whistle,&#8221; to their memories, followed by &#8220;Three Dollar Dreams.&#8221; These early works brought her immense success, major literary awards, and cultural grants.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Diving_Deeper_into_History\"><\/span>Diving Deeper into History<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.vancouveranka.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2022\/10\/img_6352ba887daaa.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Lynne stuck with the historical genre, eventually penning seven books and a slew of magazine articles. She also writes a monthly newspaper column, &#8220;Those Islanders,&#8221; for the Times Colonist, inspired by the historical accounts she collected while working with Vancouver residents.<\/p>\n<p>From 1993 to 2006, Lynne co-chaired the documentary literature department at a Vancouver university.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Tragic_Turn\"><\/span>A Tragic Turn<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The year 2011 was a truly tragic one for Lynne. She was involved in a serious car accident, suffering multiple fractures to her pelvis, legs, wrist, and sternum. Despite the severity of her injuries, she thankfully survived.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Public_Recognition\"><\/span>Public Recognition<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The government officially recognized Lynne&#8217;s contributions by including her on British Columbia&#8217;s cultural map.
