For a big party, start with the private rooms: Glowbal keeps three, Italian Kitchen takes groups of eighteen to thirty-four, and JOEY Shipyards seats large tables as routine. With children, the two JOEY rooms are the easy answer — high chairs and a menu that starts no arguments. Live music means Joe Fortes, piano nightly, and Cardero’s Restaurant. For a terrace that survives winter, The Roof at Black+Blue Vancouver burns fireplaces under glass. Everything here serves into the late evening and works on Sundays.
Now the limits. Six of these ten belong to two restaurant families — four Glowbal rooms and two JOEY addresses — so independent kitchens are thin. The cuisines are countable: international, contemporary, steak, seafood, one Japanese room and one Italian; nothing Chinese, Indian or French made the cut. The map is narrow too — the downtown core, Coal Harbour and one North Vancouver address, east side out of frame. And nobody opens early, so breakfast belongs to another list.
